I have said this before, but there is no one that cares more about the community than someone that believed in the community so much that they were willing to risk their life to protect it. There are a lot of projects out there, things that can be done to better our community, and ways to be a part of a bigger picture after leaving the service.
Our Solution:
There are a lot of organizations out there that give back to the community or participate in community projects. My goal is to be able to plug the veteran community into these projects such as building a local playground, mission trips, disaster relief, soup kitchens, and/or helping the needy, homeless, and poor. These projects will make a difference in people's lives and the community while providing a greater self-worth to veterans, especially those that miss being part of something bigger than themselves after leaving the service of the military.
The Issue:
After leaving military service, many service members lose a huge aspect of what they are about. They no longer feel special in the aspect that they are doing something great that helps others. They no longer feel the personal satisfaction of being a part of something bigger than themselves.
It's not that there are not plenty of opportunities out there or even a lack of projects that exist, the issue is getting veterans involved. The more we get involved within the veteran community, the more likely more veterans will get involved as they actually know someone going to an event or on one of the mission trips. They will have brothers and sisters they know doing it as well. Utilizing social media will help in connecting members to each other and events.
